Alisha Quass -Tumbling
I began my gymnastics career in Alberta, Canada at the age of 8. At the age of 11, competing for Big Sky Gymnastics under the direction of Hal Halvorson, I was the Class 4, all-around state champion in Montana. I competed for a couple more years in Washington at the club level for SOGA. As a freshman, I was the top scoring all-around gymnast for Pasco High School.
Due to a family move, I changed course and pursued cheerleading through high school. I was the cheer captain for Hermiston High School my senior year. I cheered for Ricks College my freshman year and was cheer captain my sophomore year. Second semester of my sophomore year, I met my husband when he became my stunt partner.
From the time I was a high school sophomore, I have coached gymnastics, cheer and tumbling; judged gymnastic competitions and cheer tryouts and coached individual students preparing to try out for cheer squads. My focus is on technique, flexibility and strength. Doing skills properly takes more time and slows down the progression to bigger skills, but we want tumblers to be safe and to look good when they perform.
I have been coaching at Excel for just over 3 years now. I enjoy the non-competitive, technique driven program at the studio.
I started dancing at the age of 3. At the age of 7 I started at the Ballet West conservatory or Ballet School till I was 13. I then started trying out different kinds of dance. Jazz, hip hop, and tumbling. My sophomore year I tried out for Cheerleading. I made the Varsity squad in which we took State 3 years and West Coast title once & National Title another Year. I later got married and was busy being a wife and mother. I was excited to have a chance to work at Excel Dance studio for 5 years and returned again the last 3 years. I love teaching and working with kids.
